R&D joins the EROSION consortium to expand their activities in rain erosion testing using their novel rain erosion testing facility for this. The innovative ideas in EROSION and the great potential for break-through results into applied use for the wind industry are key drivers to contribute. R&D can offer ideal testing facilities for conducting experiments on the erosion of wind turbine blades, depending on different conditions wind speeds and rain intensity. The results from such experiments will be unique for comparing with the on-site cases. R&D appreciates close collaboration with DTU’s material sciences researchers as these will be able to further investigate the damage and failure in materials from advance microscopic analysis and modelling. This information feeds back to R&D that increase their knowledge on rain erosion on blade materials.
