WP3. Warning in situ and forecasting

radar stevns

Aim
To develop and demonstrate prototype device for precipitation monitoring on wind turbines and to develop 10-min precipitation erosion warning forecasts based on novel rain radars.

Method
A low-cost precipitation device, based on lidar, acoustics or other
remote sensing, will be developed and tested to observe real-time droplet size and distribution aiming at quantify rain erosion events on wind turbine, and give warning input (to WP4). The disdrometer data (from WP1) for surveillance of the regional precipitation erosion potential will also be used to verify DMI’s novel dual-polarization radar-based 10-min precipitation forecasting. The forecasting will include hourly to day-ahead aimed for wind farm operation planning.
